Gems of Ramanujan and their lasting impact on Mathematics
Joint lecture by Fields Medalist Manjul Bhargava and Guggenheim Fellow Ken Ono.
Ramanujan’s work has had a truly transformative effect on modern mathematics, and indeed continues to do so as we understand further lines from his letters and notebooks. In this lecture, we hope to present some of the studies of Ramanujan that are most accessible to the general public. We will also describe how Ramanujan’s findings fundamentally changed modern mathematics, and indeed influenced our own work.
Professors Bhargava and Ono are visiting Hopkins to host a pre-release screening of the upcoming movie “The Man Who Knew Infinity”, a biographical drama on the life and work of the remarkable mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The lecture will be for a general audience.
